Join the Work That Sustains Our Community
Building Community, Strengthening Connections
The Membership & Engagement Committee plays a vital role in fostering a warm, inclusive, and connected synagogue community. Our goal is to welcome newcomers with open arms, strengthen relationships among members, and create meaningful opportunities for engagement at every stage of Jewish life.
Membership and Engagement
What We Do:
Welcome New Members: We reach out to prospective and new members, offering personal connections, welcome events, and guidance to help them feel at home in our synagogue family.
Build Community: We create opportunities for members to engage socially, spiritually, and culturally—whether through Shabbat dinners, small group gatherings, or synagogue-wide programs.
Support Lifelong Engagement: From young families to retirees, we help connect members with the programs, groups, and experiences that best fit their interests and needs.
If you have a passion for community building and welcoming others, we’d love to have you on the Membership & Engagement Team! Together, we can strengthen our congregation’s bonds and ensure every member feels truly at home.

Honoring Pursuits of Peace and Equity
The Philip Scheffler Peace and Justice Award celebrates individuals whose commitment to social justice reflects core Jewish values. Each year, CBSRZ spotlights those working tirelessly to create a more equitable world.
Philip Scheffler Peace and Justice Award
Named for a cherished CBSRZ member known for championing ethical journalism and human rights, the Philip Scheffler Peace and Justice Award recognizes individuals whose work advances equity, compassion, and understanding. Honorees may be activists, community organizers, or thought leaders making a significant impact locally or globally.
Through this annual award, we uphold the Jewish imperative to pursue justice (tzedek) and promote peace (shalom) in our world. By highlighting these exemplary figures, CBSRZ inspires congregants and the wider community to support grassroots movements, advocate for change, and collaborate on social justice initiatives. The award ceremony includes presentations, panel discussions, and opportunities for meaningful dialogue, keeping Philip Scheffler’s enduring legacy alive.
Put Jewish Values into Action
Our Social Action Committee leads efforts to serve those in need, advocate for justice, and protect our planet. Join hands to fulfill the commandment of tikkun olam—repairing the world.
Social Action and Justice
Inspired by the Jewish principle of tikkun olam, our Social Action programs channel passion for justice into tangible outreach and advocacy. From food drives and environmental cleanups to educational forums and civic engagement initiatives, volunteers of all ages find meaningful ways to help heal the world. We partner with local organizations to address urgent needs, combat inequality, and support vulnerable populations.
Throughout the year, the Social Action Committee organizes events and campaigns, inviting everyone to participate. By leveraging community resources and knowledge, we cultivate empathy, foster unity, and exemplify Jewish ethical teachings in action. Join us in making a positive difference, one step at a time.
